The job at hand

Are you a senior HR professional who, although part-time but with undivided commitment, is triggered by an end role and who wants to contribute as a true business partner to a strong leadership of a healthy company that is part of an international company with CSR as an important part of her business and are you looking for a job with adventure, then you should be looking out for this role.

Afriflora is the world’s largest rose grower and seller with 3 farms in Ethiopia and its head office and distribution center in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands. At the farms in Ethiopia Afriflora grows over 1 billion sweetheart roses annually on a greenhouse complex of approximately 650 hectares. All roses are brought to the distribution center in Aalsmeer. A large part of the roses is prepared for distribution to various retailers across Europe and the rest is prepared for auction and the flower auction in Aalsmeer.

Over the past two years, Afriflora has -with the use of temporary senior expertise-been building a step-by-step plan to further professionalize its HR function. An HR policy has been developed for the entire organization - both in the Netherlands and in Ethiopia - and  associated HR toolings have been implemented. This  to support the structure, accountability, work processes and culture. Now there is the need for a permanent HR professional who is a member of the Management Team.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • You will lead the HR function by driving the HR agenda across the Afriflora business

  • You are part of the Afriflora Management Team.

  • You are responsible for translating the company’s strategy to a sustainable HR strategy. Mapping the needs of your colleague MT co-members and managers in the  organization. Taken into account that the Management Team in Aalsmeer is newly formed.

  • You are a partner for organizational issues and changes.

  • You are end-responsible for an effective and efficient processing of all employee life cycle events (e.g. recruitment & selection, monitoring the payroll, application of the Collective Agreement, managing absenteeism, health & safety  and all corresponding social security aspects). The HR administration is handled internally and payroll is outsourced.

  • You initiate projects for the further professionalization of the (HR) organisation, a.o. the implementation of pension changes and the remuneration policy based on performance in Aalsmeer as well as Ethiopia.

  • You will function as business partner for the HR lead in Ethiopia and ensure that HR tooling which is set up, is followed up and properly executed.

Candidate profile

  • Bsc. / Msc. level

  • A minimum of 10+ years of experience in an international, all-round HR role

  • Overview of the entire HR cycle, covering Recruitment, Organisational Development, Engagement, ER issues,  Compensation & Benefits

  • Coach of senior management and confidential advisor at all levels within the organization

  • Experienced in Change-management

  • Both strategic and pragmatic

  • Competencies such as flexibility, resilience, decisiveness, driver, coach and enabler

  • Indepth knowledge of employment law

  • Ability to visit Ethiopia from time to time (appr. 10x per year)

  • Fluently speaking and writing, both in Dutch as well as English  

  • Adventurous and open mindset to different cultures and approaches
